Dendrobium rigidum syn Dockrillia rigida
A miniature orchid native to the tropical coastlines of North Queensland, where it’s often found clinging to mangroves or paperbarks. In the Australian climate, this little legend loves a warm to hot spot — ideally between 25°C and 32°C during the day — and can handle summer humidity with ease. It’s best grown on a mount like cork or hardwood so its roots can dry out quickly, mimicking its natural habitat where it gets plenty of air movement and bright, filtered sunlight. Give it a good daily drenching when it’s actively growing in the warmer months, but once winter rolls around, you’ll need to back off the watering to a light misting to give it a rest. While it’s quite hardy, it’s not a fan of frost, so if you’re growing it south of Townsville, make sure it’s under a roof or in a protected greenhouse where night temps don't dip much below 10°C.
