Dendrobium jenkinsii
Dendrobium jenkinsii is a tiny miniature compared to its cousin D. lindleyi, featuring tiny, flattened pseudobulbs that crawl and hug their mount rather than growing upright. To get it thriving in the Aussie garden, keep it warm and quite wet throughout the summer, aiming for daytime temps around 29ºC and humidity as high as 80%. Come winter, the real trick to seeing those bright gold flowers is a strict rest period; from about May to August, drastically dial back the watering and let the overnight temperatures dip down to a chilly (7-10ºC) to trigger bud development. Because of its creeping habit and tiny roots, it's almost always best off mounted on a slab of cork or tree fern where it can dry out fast, rather than being stuck in a pot where it might stay too soggy
