Dendrobium farmeri
A warm-to-hot growing epiphytic orchid from Southeast Asia, distinguished by its unique four-angled (square) pseudobulbs and cascading, pendulous clusters of white or pink flowers with bright yellow centres. To thrive, it requires bright, filtered light—as it will not bloom in deep shade—and a distinct seasonal care cycle that mimics its natural habitat. During the spring and summer growing season, provide abundant water and regular fertilisation, but once autumn arrives, you must initiate a strict winter rest by significantly reducing water, stopping fertiliser, and providing cooler night temperatures (around 10-13ºC) to trigger spring blooming. It is best grown in well-draining orchid bark or mounted on rafts, as it is highly susceptible to root rot if the medium stays waterlogged.
