Acineta superba
A striking, large-growing epiphytic orchid native to South American cloud forests that need to be grown in slatted hanging baskets using a highly breathable, coarse bark mix due to their hanging flower spikes. This species thrives in intermediate conditions with bright, filtered light, high humidity (60–80%), and consistent moisture throughout the growing season, though the substrate should approach dryness before watering again. It prefers daytime temperatures between 20°C and 28°C, and requires a distinct nighttime drop to 15°C–20°C alongside a brief, drier rest period in late winter to stimulate its spectacular, vanilla-scented spring blooms.
